Human rights activists reported 250 criminal cases due to elections in Belarus
More than 250 criminal cases were instituted in Belarus against participants in presidential elections and protests. Such a message was published on September 22 on the website of the Belarusian human rights center Spring. Most often, cases are initiated under the article on riots, at least 87 people appear in them. Cases have also been opened under articles on group actions grossly violating public order, resistance to law enforcement officers, violence or threats of violence against an employee of internal affairs agencies. There are cases against opposition-minded citizens brought for tax evasion, as well as cases for libel and hooliganism. Human rights activists claim that 200 people from different cities were prosecuted in connection with the events of the election campaign or after it. Of these, 68 people were recognized as political prisoners.
