Coronavirus in Kosovo: 196 carriers were identified per day. 16 patients died

On August 6, the National Institute of Public Health of Kosovo reported that a 24-hour study of 475 samples in the province revealed 196 new cases of coronavirus infection. Another 134 patients were recognized as cured. According to the Albanian news agency Telegrafi, a total of 9,688 cases of coronavirus infection were recorded in Kosovo. 300 people died from complications caused by COVID-19, of which 16 in the last 24 hours. 5480 patients are already healthy. 3908 people are being treated. Since the beginning of the epidemic, more than eight hundred Kosovo doctors have contracted coronavirus. Five of them died. On July 21, a family doctor died for the first time in Kosovo from the consequences of COVID-19. This is Fadil Zuka, who was treating patients with this disease. Three days later, on July 24, two more doctors, surgeon Ali Tolyay and resuscitator Süleyman Regepi, lost the battle with the invisible enemy. Both contracted coronavirus in the workplace. On July 29, three weeks after the fight against COVID-19, a doctor with thirty years of experience, Lulzim Kolgeray from Prizren, died. On July 30, Kuitim Zarari, head of the Main Center for Family Medicine, died in the Kosovo city of Dzhakova at the age of 51. The high number of detectable carriers (daily above 50% among those tested, compare with indicators in North Macedonia) with a relatively low level of testing suggests that the epidemiological situation in Kosovo is extremely difficult. Kosovo Prime Minister Avdulla Hoti openly declares that the health system is no longer coping with the burden. According to infectologists, the real number of people infected in Kosovo at times exceeds the official 9.5 thousand. The epidemic has brought Kosovo to the brink of humanitarian disaster.
