Britain is worried about Israel's plans to annex the West Bank

Israel's intention to annex the West Bank in accordance with US President Donald Trump's plan for a settlement in the region worries the British authorities. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced this on July 6 to the head of the Israeli government, Benjamin Netanyahu, in a telephone conversation. Johnson warned that unilateral territory in the West Bank would mean a step backwards with regard to peaceful prospects in the region. He expressed his personal support for Israel and called on Prime Minister Netanyahu to return to negotiations with the Palestinians, the Press Association quoted Johnson as saying. Earlier, Johnson had already warned Israel against extending sovereignty to the West Bank, noting that London did not recognize such a step. In the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth on July 1, he wrote that such annexation was contrary to international law and the interests of Israel itself.
