The US Senate is discussing the idea of buying Russian air defense systems Triumph

The party organizer of the Republican faction in the US Senate, John Thune, proposed to buy the Russian anti-aircraft missile systems (air defense systems) S-400 Triumph from Turkey. His initiative is being actively discussed, according to the American newspaper Defense News. Thune proposed a corresponding amendment to the draft law on defense budget allocations for fiscal year 2021. It is proposed to redeem the air defense systems in service with the Turkish army at the expense of funds allocated to the US Ground Forces for missile weapons. The senator believes that Turkey's ransom of Triumphs will resolve the impasse on Ankara's participation in the American F-35 fighter production program. Such a step will remove the contradictions that have accumulated between the United States and Turkey. Republican Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Jim Risch proposed a tougher decision to impose sanctions against Ankara, guided by the Law on Countering America's Opponents through Sanctions (CAATSA). The publication notes that the initiatives of senators are unlikely to be adopted. As reported news agency, the USA actively counteracted implementation of the Russian-Turkish contract for delivery Ankara of the Russian ZRS S-400.
