Almost 30% of Latvian households experience difficulties - mass media

28.6% of Latvia's households experienced serious difficulties in covering daily spending in 2019. This is 7.1% less than a year earlier. This is written by the LSM portal with reference to the data of the Central Statistical Office (CSO). According to the CSO, at the same time, the number of families that experienced little difficulty in meeting daily costs increased quite significantly in a year. Their number in 2019 was 62.4%, compared to 56.8% in 2018. Only 9% of families experienced no difficulties in incurring daily expenses in 2019. It is noted that poverty is more prevalent among single older persons aged 65 and over, as well as families with children. 47.8% of people in the first category and 40.1% in the second had difficulty or great difficulty paying daily bills. The minimum amount for normal coverage of expenses per person, according to the Central Security Service of Latvia, was 579 euros in 2019 and increased by 24 euros per year.
