Tundu Lissu to become opposition candidate in Tanzania presidential election
Prominent Tanzanian opposition leader Tundu Lissu was nominated by the party for Democracy and Progress (CHADEMA) for the presidency of Tanzania in the general elections to be held in October 2020. This is reported by the Air Force Swahili. The nomination of Lissu was announced after an internal party vote, in which he received 405 votes of members of the National Party Council out of 442. His closest rival, former tourism minister Lazaro Nyalandu, received 36 votes. Recall that Lissu was forced to leave Tanzania for treatment after he survived an attempted murder in the country's capital, Dodoma, in September 2017. Lissou collapsed from Belgium last week. In the elections, the main competitor to Lissu will be the current president of the country, D jon Magufuli. Lissou has been a fierce critic of President Magufuli for the past four years. Lissou's candidacy should be approved by the party's national congress on Tuesday, August 4.
