Knorr will rename one of the sauces for fear of accusations of racism

One of its sauces is going to rename the manufacturer of seasonings and spices the German trademark Knorr for fear of possible accusations of racism. This was reported on August 17 by Bild am Sonntag. Knorr representatives intend to rename the Zigeunersauce sauce, its name in Russian sounds like Gypsy sauce. According to Knorr management, such a name may be misunderstood in the light of discussions on the manifestations of racism in society. The sauce will again appear on sale under the name Paprikasauce Ungarische Art (Sauce with paprika in Hungarian). The Central Council of Sinti and Roma in Germany approved the Knorr initiative, but representatives of the council noted that gypsies in Europe currently have more serious problems than renaming the sauce. In particular, the council indicated an increase in anti-Gang sentiment in European countries. Zigeunersauce sauce has been produced by Knorr since 1903. But in recent decades, the word Zigauner has acquired a negative connotation and it has ceased to be used in relation to representatives of gypsy communities. Earlier, the news agency announced the intention of the BVG transport company in Berlin to rename the Mohrenstra e metro station, named after the Russian composer Mikhail Glinka. It is explained that the word Mohren in Germany is an outdated analogue of the word Negro and because of this, the company fears accusations of racism.
