Migrants will eliminate the consequences of the earthquake in Albania
The Albanian Parliament has passed a law facilitating the procedure for obtaining a visa for persons wishing to work in the country. According to Albanian news agency Telegrafi, now the period of obtaining a visa has been reduced from 60 to 30 days, and it is now enough to complete online registration. The law was drafted by the Government. The formal reason for its adoption was the shortage of labour in Albania to deal with the consequences of the earthquake on 26 November in a short time. However, opposition deputy Ralph Joni states that his preparation began before the earthquake: If the earthquake became such a serious problem that we needed foreign workers, then forgive me why consultations (on this bill news agency) took place on September 19 and October 16. This is not at all related to the November earthquake. That seems like a wrong explanation to me. It's just a cover for perhaps the dark commercial targets of two or three commercial ventures in Albania that need foreign labor, perhaps cheaper than Albanian, Joni said. It is worth noting that Albania is a major donor of labour, remittances from migrants account for about 10% of the country's GDP, and even before the earthquake the official unemployment rate was 15%. In this regard, the adoption of the new law by the Albanian Parliament seems strange.
